Phablet devices become more and more popular as people use their smartphones more and more often for browsing. Very soon the moment will come when spending time online on your handset will exceed the time you spend in calls – this makes phablets look very appealing. Foreseeing such a future for mobile devices Asus introduced their pocket friendly hybrid – the Asus FonePad.
The LED backlit capacitive touchscreen will mostly be appreciated for its IPS technology
Having in mind its low cost, the device actually brought a lot of surprises starting with its design. The brushed aluminum on the back is elegantly curved to form a unibody appearance all the way to the front along the display panel. The whole construction looks and feels simple but well built and solid. Of course putting a 7-inch display to their ear will definitely not appeal to anyone but still once you get used to it you will probably be able to enjoy its flexibility.

The LED backlit capacitive touchscreen will mostly be appreciated for its IPS technology. It allows wide viewing anlges. The display panel provides 1280×800 pixel resolution or that is 216ppi density.
The internal storage available here can be 8GB or 16GB according to the configuration. Of course you can take advantage of the micro SD card slot and increase that memory further – up to 32Gb more. The CPU performance also varies. The processor unit inside Asus Fonepad can work at 1.2 or 1.6GHz frequency, being respectively Intel Atom Z2420 or Z2460. Both of them are backed by 1GB of system memory. The visuals here are handled by Power VR SGX540 graphics processing unit.
The battery is a non-removable 4270 mAh one
One of this device’s strong suits is the high-capacity battery piece. It is a non-removable 4270 mAh one that provides the device with power for about 9 hours of intensive talking and multitasking. It turns this machine into a reliable travel companion.
If you are looking for a camera smarphone or tablet then this is definitely not your device. The base camera works in 3MP quality and 720p video resolution. The front lens provides 1.2MP but is decent enough for making video calls when there is enough light around. Camera configurations can be market dependent.
The Asus Fonepad runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean platform.
For about $250 Asus Fonepad is a great 7-inch choice for phablet lovers on a budget.
