FonePad Note FHD6 or Why You Should Never Judge a Book by its Cover

In today’s video review we are taking a close look at the growing Asus phablet family, its latest member is FonePad Note FHD6.
The brand announced this device last week at Computex computer expo and it quickly became clear that it has it all to be called their phablet flagship.

This Android hybrid offers FullHD resolution on a 6-inch diagonal

Actually we were first deceived by its appearance which hardly suggests such a powerful set of specifications and hardware inside. The design resembles very much that of Samsung’s devices – white plastic body, glossy all over and a metallic rim going all along the edges.  This is definitely not the slimmest device out there – at 10.3 mm depth and 210g weight, the handset feels solid in the hands. The unibody design is something that blocks the access to the Li-Po 3200mAh battery inside. The earpiece and microphone are covered in wide metallic grills going along the top and bottom borders. In fact this is where the dual speakers are placed for creating a stereo sound effect. The sound coming out is pretty decent, not as rich and deep as we wish but still pretty clear and loud.
The first impression made by the poor design disappeared the second we put the FonePad Note FHD 6 into action.

The Super IPS+ display panel is really beautiful at 367ppi density

This Android hybrid offers FullHD resolution on a 6-inch diagonal. The Super IPS+ display panel is really beautiful – sharp and vivid thanks to the high pixel density of 367ppi. The brightness is also at a high level at 450nits. We didn’t have any trouble reading from the display out in the sunlight. The display has an anti-scratch protection on top and a special coating which prevents fingerprints on the glass.
Of course there is a better way to cope with fingerprints and that is – to use the FonePad Note’s stylus. It certainly provides better precision and control than the finger. However, using the stylus to navigate through the menus, we sometimes experienced irresponsiveness on part of the display.
The Intel logo on the backpanel as you might figure suggests powerful performance.

It is powered by a dual-core 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor

The FonePad Note packs a powerful potential inside. It is powered by a dual-core 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor backed up by a considerable amount of system memory – 2GB. The device quickly loaded full-sized web pages with flash content, multitasking also was a piece of cake for its hardware. Video and graphics are handled by Power VR SGx 544MP2.
We didn’t have to wait much for full webpages to be loaded on a 3G network such a powerful hardware set can show its best only on a 4G which unfortunately is not supported by this device.

Asus FonePad FHD 6 comes with Android 4.2

We tested the 8MP camera on the back at noontime when the most challenging light conditions occur. It autofocused quickly and exposed correctly, the images come out at 3264×2448 pixels. The camera is also able to shoot 1080p videos. A huge minus here is the lack of a flash. The secondary camera on the front offers 1.2MP and video in 720p quality.
Asus FonePad FHD 6 comes with Android 4.2 and two different versions in terms of internal storage – 16GB and 32GB. The good news is that whichever you choose you can increase it later by adding up to 64GB more on an SD card. In addition you can take advantage of 5GB Asus Webstorage for an unlimited time.
