Mid-range smartphones are one of the most popular class of mobile devices since they don’t lack any essential features and at the same time are a great bargain. This is the reason most technology companies fill their mid-range portfolio with quite a few handsets every year. Today Digital Magnet will show the next mid-range Android by Sony – this is Xperia M.
Sony Xperia M runs on a dual-core 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro
At first sight the design looks exactly like a unibody one. This is achieved thanks to Sony’s OmniBalance design, used to bring harmony and symmetry in its design lines. The plastic body is held together by a silver bezel frame along its edges. The back panel is plastic but the matte rubbery surface feels really nice and comfortable in the hand. The illumination bar, which is a distinctive feature in Xperia handsets is built-in just below the capacitive keys. It will notify its owner with different colour light signals whenever they have missed calls, unread messages or updates. On the right edge the aluminium power button is placed along with a volume rocker and a dedicated camera shutter key. It quickly launches the 5MP camera even from a locked screen mode.
You can use it to focus and then snap different kinds of images, including High Dynamic Range ones. It is accompanied by an LED flash The camera on the Xperia M does the job but we would not recommend it to people who look for a camera phone. It also captures video in 720p. The secondary camera is placed on the top left corner and delivers VGA quality.
This mid-range Android offers 4GB of onboard storage
Sony Xperia M runs on a dual-core 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro. This is an asynchronous CPU which means that each core is powered up and down separately. It results in much longer battery life no matter how many applications run simultaneously. When you turn on the battery stamina mode it means battery power will be saved for whenever you need it. The processor productivity is great, we loaded it with a few browse windows, applications and a video playback and it stood our test with almost no lags. System processes run smoothly using 1GB of memory.
This mid-range Android offers 4GB of onboard storage, which is pretty insufficient but of course there is an option to add up to 32GB more through the SD card slot.
The 4-inch screen here is of TFT type at 480×854 pixel resolution
Sony Xperia M offers the perfect screen size for the ladies or people who are not happy with the unpracticality of the big screens. The 4-inch screen here is of TFT type at 480×854 pixel resolution. The pixel density is average – 245ppi. There is a scratch-resistant glass layer on top to prevent accidental damage of the display. Video performance and graphics here are handled by Adreno 305.
Connectivity abilities are based on the NFC feature on the Xperia M. It means you can connect and share with other devices just with one touch. On the left side, the handset offers a USB 2 port.
Sony Xperia M comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and a variety of fresh colors, suitable for any style. You can chose between black, white, purple and yellow.
