Sony stays true to providing a high-end performance in their HDR series of video cameras. The PJ line of devices is marked by the presence of a built-in projector. In this video review we will take a closer look on one of the members of this family – this is Sony HDR PJ740.

The PJ740 camcoder has a 9 inch 24MP Exmor-R CMOS sensor inside

The unique to Sony balanced optical stabilization technology also known as Steady Shot is the first thing that makes impression when you turn on the camera. The powerful stabilizing technology on board ensures smooth transition and movement reducing any potential vibrations during hand shooting.
The PJ740 camcoder has 9 inch 24MP Exmor-R CMOS sensor inside. It provides Full HD video recording, or that is 1920×1080 pixel resolution at 25 fps or you are also able to capture at the slow motion frame rate of 50fps. Of course you can shoot at the classic movie frame rate of 24fps. This camera’s productivity and precision are delivered by the high-speed BIONZ image processor on board that revels its full potential when capturing fast moving subjects.

But now let’s pay more attention to the lens. Sony has equipped the camcoder with a Sony 26mm wide-angle lens that besides from being optically is also electronically stabilized. The Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T features 10x optical zoom. The aperture of the lens varies from f/1.8 to f/3.4 and the shutter speed can be taken down to 10 000 of the second.
As to the software of this video camera, it offers you fixed settings for the most common shooting scenes: beach, fireworks, landscape, portrait, snow twilight and more. Of course you have the freedom to manipulate all of the settings manually to achieve the desired results with your composition, lighting and technical approach as a whole.
The video light on the camera covers up to meter and a half and in photo mode you are provided with a powerful flash.

The built-in projector on the front can display the videos or photos directly on a flat surface

Its interface also offers USB 2 port and an HDMI out for sharing your videos with everybody on a tv screen or a big monitor. This, however, is not the only option with this video camera. The built-in projector on the front can display the videos or photos directly on a flat surface. To that you can add the Dolby sound technology and you are good to go and share the best moments from your vacation or the concert you went to with everybody. The projection size covers up to 100 inches. You are also able to manually adjust the picture from the special focus slider on top.
You can live-view, preview and control the menu settings of this video camera through the Xtra Fine LCD 3-inch monitor.

The integrated GPS module adds a location tag to your photos and videos

It is a touch-sensitive display panel. The integrated GPS module allows you to add a location tag to your photos and videos and thus organize them easily. What’s more in this way you will never forget where you shot that wonderful sunset.
The 32GB of integrated onboard memory are plenty of storage at your disposal even if you happen to ever forget your SD card.
The name of the camera corresponds well to its lightweight of only 580g. Despite the fact that it’s one really compact gadget you get professional performance.
